Anklets & Summer Styling
The smallest piece — and the one that changes how you move
An anklet is the piece people forget they are allowed to have. It sits below everything else, quiet until you catch it in the light, and then suddenly your whole walk looks a little more deliberate. Summer is when it shines — bare ankles, sandals, hems that move — but I want to let you in on something: a well-chosen anklet does not have to disappear when the weather turns. Let me show you how to wear one now, and how to keep it going.
Start with where it sits
The magic of an anklet is placement. It draws the eye down and lengthens the whole line of your leg, which is why even the daintiest beaded strand reads as intentional. Keep it snug enough to stay put but loose enough to slide a finger under — too tight and it fights you, too loose and it spins the clasp round to the front. If you wear a bracelet stack up top, think of the anklet as the echo at the bottom: same metal, smaller scale, and your silhouette suddenly rhymes from wrist to foot.
Three ways to wear one this season
- Let one stone lead. A single carnelian bead on a fine chain is my favorite summer anklet — the warm orange practically glows against sun-warmed skin, and it carries that get-up-and-go energy right where your stride begins.
- Stack low and close. Two thin anklets on one ankle look far more styled than one on each. Pair a plain chain with a beaded citrine strand and let them layer, exactly the way you would build a bracelet stack on your wrist.
- Match your metal upward. Whatever metal you are wearing at your neck — a choker, a long necklace — repeat it at the ankle. That single echo is what ties a bare-sandals look together and makes it read as an outfit, not an afterthought.
Sofia’s shortcut: if you are nervous about anklets, start with a beaded moss agate strand on a stretch cord. No clasp to fuss with, the green earthy tones go with everything from denim to a swimsuit, and you can slip it on and forget it is there until someone compliments you.
Carrying it past summer
Here is the part nobody tells you: anklets do not have to be a July-only thing. As the evenings cool, move yours from a bare ankle to just above a low sock or a thin boot — that sliver of shine peeking out is quietly one of the best looks of early fall. Trade the bright stones for something calmer: a soft blue amazonite or a banded tiger’s eye feels right as the palette around you turns to rust and camel. The piece stays; only the mood shifts.
Make it yours
An anklet is small enough that it should feel personal — a stone you love, a length cut exactly to you, a clasp you never have to think about. If you want one built around a specific crystal or sized just so, that is what custom orders are for. And if you are still deciding which stone belongs closest to your step, wander the crystal library and see which one keeps catching your eye.
Mostly, though, wear it. An anklet asks so little of you and gives back this small, glinting reminder every time you glance down — that today, you dressed for yourself.
