The Throat Chakra

Amazonite, Sodalite, Lapis Lazuli & Angelite — stones for the voice

The fifth gate: where the body learns to speak

We have been climbing. Root at the base, steady as a floor. Sacral and its current of feeling. Solar plexus, the small sun of will. Heart, the wide green room where love lives. And now the throat — the narrow place where everything below has to turn into sound.

The throat chakra, Vishuddha, sits at the hollow of the neck, and the old texts name it the gate of purification. I think of it more plainly as the place where the inner life meets the air. It governs the voice, yes, but voice in the fullest sense: the truth you tell, the truth you swallow, the no you finally say, the thank-you you have been meaning to give. When this center is easy, words arrive clean and land where you aimed them. When it is tight, you feel it — the sentence you kept, the apology that was never yours to make, the hoarseness after a day of saying everything except the real thing.

Blue is its color, the blue of deep water and late sky. The stones that answer to it are blue almost to the one, and each works on the voice a little differently.

The stones of the throat

Amazonite is the stone of the brave, honest word. It has a soft blue-green color, like glass worn smooth by a river, and it is the one I reach for when the problem is not what to say but the nerve to say it. Amazonite does not make you louder; it makes you steadier, so the true sentence can come out at an ordinary volume.

Sodalite is for the thoughts behind the words. Deep navy run through with white, it is the stone of the clear head and the ordered mind — the one that helps you find the sentence before you need it, so you are not groping for language in the moment that matters. Where amazonite gives courage, sodalite gives order.

Lapis Lazuli is the old monarch of this chakra. Royal blue flecked with gold, prized by pharaohs and painters alike, it asks for the truth and nothing softer. Lapis is the stone for the hard conversation, the boundary long overdue, the moment you decide that honesty is the kinder thing. Keep it close when you have something real to say.

Angelite is the gentlest of the four. Pale blue, chalky and calm, it tempers the others — because the throat is not only about speaking but about speaking kindly. Angelite is for the voice that must stay soft under pressure, for listening as much as talking, for the quiet that lets hard words be heard.

A small practice for the voice

Hold one of these stones at the base of your throat for the length of three slow breaths. On each exhale, let one true sentence take shape — it does not have to be spoken aloud, only admitted. The throat loosens when we stop pretending we have nothing to say.

How to work with them

Wear them where you can feel them. A pendant that rests near the collarbone keeps a throat stone exactly where its work is done, which is why so many of our crystal pieces hang at just that length. If you have a conversation coming that you have been dreading, carry lapis or amazonite in a pocket and touch it once before you begin — not as a charm, but as a reminder of what you have decided to say.

And if you are not sure which of the four is yours, that uncertainty is its own kind of honesty. Take the quiz — a few questions about where you feel stuck, and it will point you toward the stone that fits the voice you are trying to find.

The throat is where the whole climb becomes audible. Everything we have gathered so far — the grounding, the feeling, the will, the love — is worth little if it stays locked behind the teeth. These four stones do not hand you the words. They hand you the willingness to use the ones you already have.

Next Friday we rise to the brow, to the third eye — Amethyst, Labradorite, and the stones of inner sight.
